Riya is a toddler now and we’ve tried so many different products in the past year, hoping to find something that is safe for her sensitive skin. I finally figured out what works best for her and thought why not share it with other moms. Every child is different, but we hope that our recommendations might help you if you’re looking for some new things to try for your little one.

Baby Bath Time Essentials

Honest Company – Shampoo + Body Wash

It’s been a long time trying to find a body wash that is gentle enough for her skin. Unfortunately, the products that I used growing up like Aveeno, Dove, and Cetaphil didn’t work for my baby ( and honestly don’t work for me either anymore). I was pretty disappointed because they do market themselves to be a gentler alternative. However, after deciding to give the Honest company a try, I was pleasantly surprised with their fragrance-free body wash. After using Honest, her rash completely disappeared (which flared up from the Dove baby wash). It has aloe, chamomile, and calendula known to gently soothe and nourish. Its also formulated with coconut oil, jojoba protein and quinoa extract to moisturize and soften skin. It’s a great cleanser but doesn’t strip her skin.

Hobe Naturals – Grapeseed Oil

Any brand Grapeseed oil will do but I normally buy this brand at my local Sprouts (its mixed with vitamin E oil). What I love about grapeseed oil, in general, is the light consistency but its moisturizing. It’s the best oil to restore damaged skin in my opinion. Grapeseed oil contains high levels of antioxidative polyphenols. This has been great to add to Riya’s skin care regimen in addition to a body cream for the winter months.

Grape seed extract is known as a powerful antioxidant that protects the body from premature aging, disease, and decay. Grape seeds contains mainly phenols such as proanthocyanidins (oligomeric proanthocyanidins). Scientific studies have shown that the antioxidant power of proanthocyanidins is 20 times greater than vitamin E and 50 times greater than vitamin C. Extensive research suggests that grape seed extract is beneficial in many areas of health because of its antioxidant effect to bond with collagen, promoting youthful skin, cell health, elasticity, and flexibility.

Baby Seba Med -Baby cream Extra Soft

Seba Med is the BEST line of skin care products I’ve ever seen. It’s mainly sold at Costco but I believe you can order it online. Seba Med is the only brand I know of that believes in the pH balance of healthy skin. So they are all about creating quality products through research. Their baby cream is perfect for the winter months by creating a barrier against moisture loss for extra protection for your baby’s skin. According to their research, 5.5 pH is vital for healthy skin for babies. All of their products are created to have a balance of this exact number. Any other pH will leave your baby’s skin irritated and dry.

Mustela- Body Lotion

Mustela is another brand that I absolutely love. It is a French company that is sold in Target and is a great lightweight lotion for the summer months. It does a great job at preserving hydration in the skin and is very gentle on the skin. It also smells so amazing, I use it for my hands.  This lotion has been a baby bath time essential for a while.

Just For Me- Detangling Creamy Co-Wash

This is a great product for detangling my little one’s curls. I use it once a week and finger detangle her hair while it’s conditioning. I love it because it’s rich, and really does what it’s supposed to do. It also cuts the detangling time in half when I’m doing her hair.

Johnson & Johnson – Baby Shampoo

I never thought Johnson and Johnson would be on my favorite list but I love their shampoo. It’s gentle enough but its great for clarifying without stripping her hair dry. I use this shampoo every other week before conditioning.

Kinky Curly – Spiral Spritz

Kinky Curly is a great line for naturalistas and their spiral spritz is perfect for adding some juice to my baby’s curls. I only use it when I’m styling her hair as it’s not the best for moisturizing. It has more of a thin gel consistency and works well for doing cute hairstyles.

Taliah Waajid – Easy Curly Comb Out Hair Creme

Taliah Waajid is my favorite line of natural hair care products. I wasn’t too surprised at the quality when I started using their kid line, its good stuff. Their hair creme is light and moisturizing, perfect for combing out and braiding her hair.

Kare Co – Tangle Buster Paddle Brush

This brush. Is. Amazing! Forget the Denman brush, the Kare Co brush is 10x better. It’s easy to glide through her hair and minimizes tangles and snags as well. Each row of bristles are flexible and separated from one another so its great for working with wet hair and it is easy to clean. I’ll be using this brush for years to come!

As moms we really want our kids to have the best. Bath time has been such a  learning experience trying to teach and show my daughter how to take care of herself. She now knows that she has to take a bath, brush her teeth and wash her hair. Something that is so ingrained in us turns into this huge thing. In motherhood. Along with all the other experiences, bath time is a bonding moment for you and your baby. We hope that this list of our favorite products will help you with creating your routine with baby bath time essentials.
